The final results are in for United Way of Larimer County's annual Make A Difference Day events, which took place October 19 - 25th. During the week-long event, 1,830 volunteers completed 94 volunteer service projects throughout Larimer County. In total, volunteers provided approximately 7,694 hours of service.
Make A Difference Day, a nation-wide day of doing good, is a week-long event in Larimer County because of its popularity and continued success. This is the 17th year that United Way has organized the event in Larimer County, and Make A Difference Day activities are the largest week of volunteer service in northern Colorado.
"We are so grateful for all of the people and organizations that came together to make this year's Make A Difference Day a great success," said Gordan Thibedeau,President & CEO of United Way of Larimer County. "Our community's continued commitment to volunteerism is something we can all be very proud of."
The estimated value for one hour of volunteer service is $23.07, according to the U.S. Bureau ofLabor Statistics. When translated into dollar impact, 2015 Make A Difference Day volunteers in Larimer County invested $177,523 back into the community.
Dozens of nonprofit and community organizations in Larimer County hosted volunteer projects throughout the week. Projects included a wide range of activities, from playground clean-up, to feeding local homeless individuals and families, to reading to young children.There were service projects for people of all ages, and varying skill levels.
For the second consecutive year, United Way deliberately tied volunteer projects to the organization's focus of reducing poverty in Larimer County by helping local children and families succeed in school, work, and life.
"Volunteerism has a tremendous impact on driving social change in our community," said Marcy Yoder, Vice President of Community Impact at United Way of Larimer County. "We invite all community volunteers to stay engaged with United Way and our local nonprofit partners year-round so that, together, we can create long-term, lasting change on the issue of poverty in Larimer County."
